From Nyíregyháza to Poland

The deployment was preceded by a long, carefully structured training period. During the training sessions, the soldiers gradually progressed from individual to force-level coordinated task execution. The objective was for the reservists to not only be able to confidently apply their lessons learned in a domestic training environment, but also to stand their ground while cooperating with soldiers from other nations.

“The training of the departing personnel was a success; they are capable of moving and thinking on force level. They carried out their tasks with motivation and discipline, and their determination was evident in the more challenging tactical situations. One of the key objectives of the training sessions was to prepare reserve squad and platoon leaders who are capable of leading their comrades and, in the future, carrying out training tasks as well,” said Lieutenant József Cservenyák, assigned officer with the HDF 5th Territorial Defence Battalion, who travelled with the personnel to the exercise in Poland.

According to the lieutenant, one of the most important benefits of Fiery Emblem will be that soldiers can test their readiness even in unfamiliar environments.

“A procedure or maneuver truly becomes second nature when a soldier is able to carry it out properly even in an unfamiliar environment. During the exercise, they work together with their Polish comrades in combined platoons, enabling them to experience command in a foreign language, familiarize themselves with each other’s procedures, and apply lessons learned in new situations,” said Lieutenant Cservenyák.

The reservists will spend ten days in Poland. During the exercise, they will carry out force protection and patrol tasks, and various tactical tasks. At the end of their training, they can prove their skills in a live-fire exercise carried out on force level.

Before their departure, Colonel Antal Orosz, the unit’s commander, addressed the personnel at the Damjanich Barracks in Nyíregyháza. “It is crucial that, at the exercise site, everyone focuses their full attention on the tasks ahead. Learn valuable lessons, then return home safe and sound, for a well-trained soldier is our greatest asset,” Colonel Orosz told the departing personnel.

The commander of the regiment also spoke about the significance of the Polish participation. The joint training provides Hungarian soldiers with the opportunity to test their readiness in a new environment, to gain a closer insight into Polish military procedures, and to further strengthen cooperation between the armed forces of the two nations.

The personnel have arrived safely in Poland, where, during Exercise Fiery Emblem over the coming days, they will be able to demonstrate in an allied environment what a well-prepared, cohesive team of reservists is capable of.
