Within the framework of the pre-planned, joint, whole-of-government, defence Exercise Adaptive Hussars 2025, paratroopers of the Parachute Squadron of the HDF Special Operations Command are executing parachute jumps from KC-390 transport aircraft above the “zero” point shooting range and military training area. The objective of the exercise is to strengthen SOF capabilities, especially those related to covert and quick reaction deployments.

Insertion by parachute has a number of strategic and tactical advantages in modern warfare. It makes it possible to covertly infiltrate into enemy or hard-to-access areas. Airborne operations are the only effective alternative on sites where it would not be possible to use conventional insertion by land or air. Its advantage is the quick and surprise appearance, which is especially useful in hostage rescue actions, target marking and intelligence gathering operations.

The Embraer KC-390 transport aircraft used during the exercise is a modern, versatilely equipped asset, which is capable of inserting a large number of paratroops. “It is good to jump from this aircraft because it has ample space for our backpacks. The door for us to step out is ideal – explains First Lieutenant L. S., who serves with the unit as company commander. “After the door there is a step-out place which automatically turns you out to 45 degrees, and the other 45 degrees are provided by gravity. You’re out in the air in almost no time, which is an indescribable feeling!” – says the first lieutenant, who has been proud of being a member of the Parachute Squadron since the first minute.

“We often execute jumps above the Szandaszőlős airfield. The last time when we had the opportunity to jump in an international environment was within the framework of Exercise Swift Response in Sweden and Norway – adds Platoon Leader First Lieutenant B. Sz. “Most of us have experience in doing complex terrain jumps. This exercise demonstrates that we are able to safely and precisely land from a KC-390 aircraft, too.”

There is no shortage of harmony way up high, either, as the paratroops can overcome even the slightest fear thanks to the team spirit, and once they land, it takes just a moment for them to get ready for action.
