The Hungarian flag was ceremoniously raised at the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) Torrejón, Spain, on 3 November. This flag-raising ceremony is held by all 19 nations serving in the centre each year, and within it, the CAOC personnel give thanks for the service together.

On 3 November, Lieutenant General Juan Pablo Sánchez de Lara, commander of the military organisation, greeted the Hungarian personnel. He pointed out in his speech that the changing security environment requires NATO’s development. In light of this, the recently organized Exercise Steadfast Duel 2025 provided opportunity for cooperation and practice within the framework of the Alliance. He underlined the importance of the multinational task execution, in which Hungary is participating as a steady ally.

The event was also attended by Georg von Habsburg, Hungary’s Ambassador to Spain, who, following the flag raising, visited the centre’s buildings, the operations room, and was informed about the task system of the organization and the Hungarian participation.

At the standing reception, held at the end of the event, Hungarian soldiers serving at the CAOC hosted the participants, which provided an opportunity to further deepen international relations within the alliance system.

The centre is at Torrejón Air Base, near Madrid. In peacetime, its main tasks include planning, controlling, coordinating, monitoring, analysing and reporting air policing operations. Its area of responsibility involves the European airspace of NATO south of the Alps.
