Hungary supports NATO’s decision on increasing its Alliance-wide ballistic missile defence posture, which serves the defence of the populations of allied countries, including Hungary, in response to the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East – stated Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky following NATO’s announcement.

The minister said that on 5 March 2026, the NATO North Atlantic Council met in ambassadorial format for an update on the developing security situation with special regard to the missile attacks carried out by Iran that threaten regional stability. The Alliance has made its decision to heighten the level of its ballistic missile defence posture in light of this update.

The capabilities of the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS) play a key role in the defence of NATO member countries and in maintaining the credibility of collective deterrence. The minister underlined that Hungary supports the decision, as it deems all measures right that are taken to strengthen the security of Hungary and the NATO allies.

He added that Hungary strongly condemns the missile attack on its ally, Türkiye, and expresses its full solidarity with Ankara. The Alliance continues to monitor the situation closely and will adjust its force posture, whenever needed to ensure the security of all Allies.
