On June 4, the Sarajevo Trophy, one of the region’s most significant youth football tournaments, was held in Sarajevo. More than 3000 young athletes from several European countries and the region took part in the event.

Major General Maurizio Fronda, Commander of EUFOR, opened the tournament. In his speech, he emphasised that the event’s goal is to strengthen ties among younger generations through sports, as well as to promote international friendship, teamwork, and mutual respect.

The Sarajevo Trophy concluded on June 7. At the awards ceremony, Brigadier General Bálint Csaba Legoza, Deputy Commander of EUFOR, presented the trophies to the top-performing players and teams. The event helped to strengthen the spirit of fair play and deepen cooperation among the participants.

On June 3, Camp Butmir hosted the “Sports Friend Run,” an international obstacle course race in which soldiers from the EUFOR Multinational Battalion and members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated. Soldiers from the Hungarian contingent also took part in the competition. Twenty teams, both national and multinational, competed in the race.

The primary goal of the program was to strengthen cooperation and teamwork, while also putting the participants’ physical fitness and endurance to the test. The shared challenges helped to strengthen partnerships between nations and foster camaraderie.

The International Speed March Competition was held on June 13 and was organized by the Dutch contingent of the EUFOR Multinational Battalion. Teams composed of soldiers from various EUFOR nations participated in the competition, including Hungarian soldiers.

Participants could demonstrate their speed, endurance, and determination during the challenges. The sports event further strengthened team spirit, camaraderie, and cooperation among the participating nations.

The sports programs at Camp Butmir also served charitable purposes. The “Run for Life” charity run was held on May 30, and many Hungarian soldiers joined in. Proceeds from the event were used to support improvements in hospital care for children battling serious illnesses.
