Besides, this is not a newly established plant: the history of munitions manufacturing in Sirok dates back more than seventy years, and the traditions of munitions manufacturing in Hungary can be traced all the way back to 1881, according to a post by Dr Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Minister of Defence, on his social media page.

Today, the plant is operated by MFS Defense Zrt., which has been part of the world-renowned Italian Beretta Holding group since 2022. The owner has not changed what really matters: production takes place in Sirok, carried out by Hungarian workers. The factory is also capable of manufacturing small-caliber ammunition in accordance with NATO standards, under a strict quality assurance system. The company also supplies foreign markets, while its manufacturing capacity in Hungary plays a significant role in meeting domestic defence requirements.
It is not simply a factory. It is know-how, technology and manufacturing capability in Hungary. And it is particularly important for the Hungarian Defence Forces to be able to rely on domestic manufacturing capacity to provide part of the military supplies and the munitions required for training and the fulfilment of their duties, emphasized the Minister of Defence.
Modern armed forces consist of more than just weapons and soldiers. They require an industrial base, expertise, a supply chain and domestic capacity that remains available even in times of crisis. In Sirok today, all of this is tangible reality. That is why I visited the factory here: because we build our defence capabilities not only in barracks, but also in factory halls, concluded Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi.
