Meeting of Finnish and Hungarian Defence Policy Directors
Text: Ministry of Defence | 09:56 June 6, 2024László Hajnik, MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy, was on an official visit to Helsinki between 16 and 17 May. The goal of the meeting was to continue the defence policy consultation begun last year.
The Hungarian delegation had a discussion with Finnish Defence Policy Director Janne Kuusela. The parties reviewed new possible fields for bilateral cooperation and the current issues of NATO–EU cooperation, including the priorities of the Hungarian EU presidency and the developments of the Russo–Ukrainian war. At Finnish request, László Hajnik introduced the National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program, launched in 2016. As for the Finnish party, they introduced the conscript service and the reservist system in their first presentation, while in the second one, they talked about the comprehensive Finnish security model.
On the occasion of the bilateral meeting, Finnish Defence Minister Esa Pulkkinen also received László Hajnik at a courtesy call. The reception on the occasion of the Day of the Hungarian Defence Forces was also held on that date at the Helsinki Embassy, where Ambassador Klára Breuer and Deputy State Secretary László Hajnik gave speeches.
