Military World Championships in Hungary

Eighteen nations, represented by more than 200 fencers, will compete in virtually every fencing discipline. The World Championships will be organized by the Hungarian Defence Forces, in cooperation with the HDF Sports Company, and managed by the Hungarian Fencing Federation. The event will be held at the Veszprém One Arena.
The International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire – CISM), like many other sports organizations, holds the Military Fencing World Championships annually. The HDF are proud to host the event, as sports are an integral part of military life, and excellent physical condition is one of the foundations of military readiness.
Among the competitors are many well-known names in the world of fencing (Olympic, world, and European champions) including Lieutenant Gergely Siklósi. The Hungarian military national team is bolstered by several fencers who have won medals at continental and world championships, such as Corporal Flóra Pásztor, Corporal Dániel Dósa, and Corporal Gergely Tóth. The athletes listed above, as well as every member of the national team stepping onto the piste, are part of the HDF and hold military ranks. The team is led by Géza Imre, a former world and European champion and two-time Olympic silver and bronze medalist in épée fencing.
