National resilience in focus

General Gábor Böröndi PhD, Chief of HDF General Staff and László Hajnik, MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy recently represented Hungary at the Berlin Security Conference. This year, the annually organized event was built around the theme “Europe and NATO – Enhancing Resolve and Resilience”.

The Berlin event is one of the most important international forums for European security and defence, which, besides political and military decision-makers, is also attended by a number of representatives of key defence industry players. The numerous topics of the 22nd Berlin Security Conference – which have an impact on the security situation of Europe – included, among others, “The Russo-Ukrainian War”, “Deterrence and Defence”, “Security for Israel and Situation in the Middle East”, “The Southern Flank and the Black Sea”, as well as “The Indo-Pacific Challenge: How does it Affect Europe?”

The security policy and defence forums between the presentations and speeches provided opportunity to discuss the topics in detail. One such high-level military forum was held under the title “Deterrence and Defence in the Central Region” with the participation of General Böröndi and other speakers – military leaders from Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Sweden. The topics of this forum included the group of NATO Regional Plans affecting Hungary, the national resilience and cooperation capabilities, interoperability, the exchange of lessons learned, infrastructure development and Host Nation Support.

The annual magazine published on the margins of the conference carries General Gábor Böröndi PhD’s English-language paper entitled “Future Defence Architecture in Europe as a Consequence of the War in Ukraine”.
