Chief Warrant Officer Zoltán Kaszab and his delegation are visiting the NATO Forward Land Force Battle Groups (FLF BG) stationed in Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria as part of a three-leg tour. During these face-to-face meetings, they will familiarise themselves with the functioning of the battle groups, discuss future tasks and meet with soldiers serving in the sub-units. In response to our question, Chief Warrant Officer Zoltán Kaszab explained that the forward battle groups play a key role in defence, because this is how NATO is able to guarantee security for civilian society. “A great deal of lessons learned arrive from the battlefields, which need to be analysed and incorporated into the various operational procedures. Our times present many new challenges for soldiers, and we must seek solutions in a multinational environment,” said the CSEL.

He highlighted that the visit also reinforces NATO’s efforts to ensure that member states familiarise themselves with one another’s weapons, tactics, techniques and procedures. The shared aim is to foster a spirit of cooperation that will enable every soldier from every member state to carry out tasks together. “Two of my fellow CSELs and I visited Várpalota today to meet the troops. As non-commissioned officers serving in senior roles at various commands, we are often far removed from them, but we can only be successful if we maintain a connection with the entire personnel,” he said.
Alongside Chief Warrant Officer Zoltán Kaszab were Chief Warrant Officer Christian Thomassin, CSEL for NATO Allied Joint Force Command (JFC Brunssum) and Chief Warrant Officer Jeramie Leamon, CSEL for NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM Izmir) visiting Hungary. Following a tour of the Várpalota camp, the guests held discussions at the Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C) with Major General László Antal, the organisation’s commander, and Command Sergeant Major Igor Baltic, CSEL.
