PzH: More than 500 applicants

The final personnel will be selected from among them, said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in Tata on 13 February, the inprocessing day of the personnel applying to enlist into the 1st Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion of the Hungarian Defence Forces 1st Armored Brigade.
“With the arrival of modern military equipment in the framework of the armed forces development program, the Hungarian Defence Forces are recruiting young people for concrete units to perform specific tasks, said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky. He added that the would-be crewmembers of one of the world’s cutting-edge self-propelled howitzers, the PzH 2000 are offered a gross salary of HUF 737,000.
“The country can use the taxpayers’ money to purchase the most wonderful equipment in the world. We have done nothing if there won’t be any Hungarian soldiers who learn how to operate these complex assets and how to fight with them”, said the minister.
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky pointed out that the recruitment office had offered the applicants an optional preliminary medical fitness test, so those who applied to join the HDF after quitting another workplace were able to do so without risk.
Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of HDF General Staff told us that their aim is to renew the recruitment system of the Hungarian Defence Forces. During the three-month campaign, they presented the PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer at numerous venues, which has led to a significant increase in the number of those interested in the artillery. The lieutenant general added that some of the would-be artillerymen had already gained experience in the Military Cadet Program. Apart from them, a number of territorial defence reservists also applied for the job, and one can even find weapon technicians and athletes among the fresh recruits.
