Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky underlined that the tasks of defending Hungary and the Hungarian people are still intensely weighing on the Hungarian soldiers due to the Russo-Ukrainian war, the conflict in the Middle East and the migration crisis affecting Europe. He added that the 2024 international engagements of the Hungarian Defence Forces also make it necessary to increase the respect for soldiers further.

The minister said that the soldiers can expect an 11 percent increase on average in 2024. He recalled that the first phase of the two-phase significant salary increase decided by the government was provided in September 2022, and its amount was 26.4 percent on average. This year, the salary of soldiers is being increased by 12 percent for enlisted personnel, 11 percent for non-commissioned officers and 10 percent for commissioned officers on average – he added.

The minister also said that the regulation entered into force following the legislative tasks. It guarantees the disbursement of the difference between the salary and the increased salary since 1 January 2024, which means that the members of the enlisted personnel will receive the amount of the increase for January retroactively, together with that of February in the first days of March.
