Dr Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi was accompanied on the site visit by Lieutenant General Dr István Kun Szabó, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, and Colonel Attila Csurgó, Commander of the HDF 14th Engineer Regiment.
Soldiers from the HDF Engineer Regiment deployed at the area are working round the clock to ensure the safe operation of the Paks nuclear power plant, despite the extremely low water levels.
The unit from Szentes has begun site preparation on the left bank of the Danube using dump trucks, a medium-duty multipurpose earthmoving machine, a self-propelled road profiler and a bulldozer. The soldiers are setting up storage areas to receive the stone deliveries due to arrive in the coming days, and are preparing the work site for the next phase of construction.
Construction of the structure designed to raise the water level of the Danube has already begun on the right bank, and work is scheduled to start on the left bank as early as Thursday.
