The Mass was celebrated by Major Kornél Horváth, military chaplain of the Hungarian Defence Forces, with the intention of establishing a new tradition.

The commemorative ceremony was attended by Hungarian soldiers serving in Kosovo as part of the 34th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces KFOR Contingent, as well as Dr. László Dux, Ambassador of Hungary to Kosovo, members of the Embassy staff, Colonel Csaba Szabó, Senior National Representative, Lieutenant Colonel Tamás Robotka, and Lieutenant Colonel Botond Hetényi, Commander of the Contingent.
The opening reflections of the Mass connected the legacy of Saint Ladislaus with the core values of military service. Discipline, responsibility, the challenges of demanding training, loyalty among comrades, and the willingness to make sacrifices in the service of others are experiences that soldiers know not only from doctrine, but from their own daily service.

“Saint Ladislaus remains a powerful example and a source of guidance. The Hungarian tradition remembers him as a chivalrous king, not only because of his military strength and authority as a ruler, but also because his life reminds us that strength alone does not constitute virtue. Strength becomes worthy when it is used to protect others, to defend those in need, to uphold justice, and to safeguard the security of the community. In this sense, serving as an infantry soldier carries a particular dignity and responsibility,” said Major Kornél Horváth.
The Holy Mass was not only a religious observance, but also an opportunity for the Hungarian community serving abroad to come together: a moment of shared prayer, remembrance, and renewed commitment amid the challenges of everyday mission duties.
The celebration highlighted the enduring values represented by Saint Ladislaus — courage, service, responsibility, and dedication to the protection of others — values that continue to guide Hungarian soldiers serving on international missions.
