Experts of the Italian armed forces recently visited Hungary to collect lessons learned in the procurement and operation of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles (IFV). Their visit is a part of the cooperation agreed on last year by Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of the HDF Defence Staff and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Italian Army.

The Italian National Armaments Director and the Chief of Logistic Directorate of the Italian Defence Staff were also among the members of a delegation of experts, which was informed this week about the Hungarian armed forces development program and the lessons learned in operating the Lynx infantry fighting vehicles.

In the first phase of their program, Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári held a discussion with the six-member delegation, and then, in a plenary session, the relevant organizations of the Hungarian Defence Forces informed the foreign partners about the lessons learned in connection with the combat vehicles.

The delegation also visited the HDF 30th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, where, after its members saw a static display and were shown around in the Simulation Centre, the hosts shared with them the professional lessons learned in operating the Lynx IFVs.

Last November, during his visit to Rome and Sicily, Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári agreed with the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Italian Army about reviving consultations between Italy and Hungary on developing and equipping the armed forces. This was needed because based on the lessons learned in joint military operations, the two “strategic partners” have deemed it important to establish cooperation in the field of armaments between the two countries, thus they have revived the consultations between our countries on force development and equipment acquisition.

Under the agreement, they are looking to ways of developing cooperation, sharing lessons learned concerning the entering of new equipment into service during the development of the armed forces as well as of increasing the number of joint exercises and training events.
