The inaugural European Judo Championships of Uniformed Services was held in Birmingham, with nineteen countries taking part. On the opening day, three Hungarian medals were won: Private Second Class Attila Üveges won gold, Corporal Ádám Kalász and Private First Class Brigitta Varga won silver medals. On Sunday, Corporal Dániel Miklósvölgyi won a gold medal, and Corporal Benedek Tóth took third place on the podium. At the event, Major Szabolcs Krizsán, commander of the HDF Sports Company, also played an important role as chairman of the European Judo Union Police & Military Commission.

HDF Gripen Crashes near Szolnok

“Unfortunately, one of our Gripen fighter jets has crashed; the pilot ejected and, as of now, is in an ambulance and is alive. There were no casualties, as it appears the pilot did everything possible to ensure the crashed aircraft landed within the military base,” said Dr Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Minister of Defence, in a video posted on his Facebook page.

“The energy security of the Hungarian people is no toy! The Hungarian Defence Forces are ready to fully carry out their tasks laid out in the Fundamental Law of Hungary. The reinforcement of guard and security personnel at national critical energy infrastructure started weeks ago. The military has complemented it by reinforcing the protection of the Hungarian section of the pipeline system, based on information received from Serbia” – said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in a video message uploaded to his social media page on 6 April.

Another deployment: The Hungarian Defence Forces extinguish fires in Bulgaria as well

The Hungarian Defence Forces recently participated with a H225M helicopter in containing wildfires raging in Bulgaria. A seven-strong contingent of the HDF 86th Helicopter Wing was fighting fires for three days in the area of Ploski and Ilindentsi. During their 26 flight hours, they landed on 20 occasions and scooped up water 146 times with the Bambi Buckets used for extinguishing, using up a total of 277,000 liters of water.

Showing interest in our lessons learned about the Lynx

Experts of the Italian armed forces recently visited Hungary to collect lessons learned in the procurement and operation of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles (IFV). Their visit is a part of the cooperation agreed on last year by Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of the HDF Defence Staff and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Italian Army.
