“Security isn’t created at summits. It is where we decide whether we are ready to create it together. This NATO does not only talk about challenges but finally takes action,” —this is how Defence Minister Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD summarized on his social media page the NATO Summit held in Ankara, Türkiye. Over the course of the three-day summit, he participated in dozens of consultations and countless bilateral meetings.

The packed schedule featured a succession of plenary sessions, ministerial consultations, expert forums, and a series of bilateral meetings. However, as the minister noted, the conversations in the hallways were often just as important as the official agenda.

He stated that Hungary is “once again a sought-after partner” and that many countries have expressed their intention to cooperate. “It is good to see that our country is gradually regaining the trust and respect that is due to a committed, predictable, and proactive NATO ally.”

Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD believes that, in response to the security environment, NATO has entered a new era characterized by fewer words and promises, but more action and capability development.

In his post, the Minister of Defence also emphasized that “national defence is truly strong when democratic political leadership and the professional leadership of the Hungarian Defence Forces work toward the same goal: to guarantee Hungary’s security and prepare our country for the challenges of the future.”
