Strengthening Cooperation Between Hungary and the United Arab Emirates

The minister recalled that the 35th anniversary of Hungarian-Emirates diplomatic relations is being celebrated this year and emphasized that it has been more than three decades since they began building the cooperation based on friendly and strategic thinking that today is one of the firmest bases of the relationship between the two countries.

He praised the unprecedented development of the United Arab Emirates during the past decades, underlining that the Emirates became one of the most dynamically developing economies in the world, a leading actor in technological innovations and also grew to be decisive in global diplomacy.

He pointed out that today, the world sees the Emirates not only as a strong economic partner but as a state capable of acting as initiator and intermediator, building bridges and shaping international politics.

The minister called 2025 one of the most outstanding and, from various aspects, a historic year of bilateral relations, thus referring to this year’s top-level meetings. “The partnership between Hungary and the United Arab Emirates is strengthening, deepening and getting long-term”, said the minister, adding that the visit of the president of the United Arab Emirates to Hungary this year started a new chapter in the history of the two countries’ relations and was a strong indication that the Emirates regard Hungary as a distinguished partner in Central Europe.

He called attention to the fact that this year, Hungary and the United Arab Emirates concluded 18 new cooperation agreements in the fields of energy, infrastructure, technological innovations, education and research. He called the agreement between the Hungarian side and the Emirates’s leading defence company, the Edge Group, the most important development of 2025, which, according to him, strengthens both countries’ technological sovereignty and defence capabilities.

He also indicated that advanced negotiations are going on between the two countries about preparing a comprehensive defence cooperation agreement, which can form the institutional bases for military, defence industrial and strategic cooperation and set the common directions for the following years.

He emphasized that Hungary considers the United Arab Emirates a long-term strategic partner in the fields of defence and security, and also sees a cooperation possibility in the fields of energy, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

He also underlined that the two countries are also bonded by such values as appreciation for family and tradition, respect for cultural heritage and protection of national sovereignty.

“The United Arab Emirates is globally recognized for creating the harmony of modernization and tradition. This attitude is also exemplary for us here in the heart of Europe”, declared Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.
