The Hungarian Defence Forces Help in the Exceptional Snow Situation
Text: Ministry of Defence | Photo: Franciska Veres, HDF Military Police Regiment, HDF 2nd Sustainment Regiment, HDF 5th Territorial Defence Regiment |  13:27 January 8, 2026Due to the exceptional snowfall, the Hungarian Defence Forces regrouped several pieces of equipment to different territories to get closer to possible focal points and be able to intervene within a short time if needed, said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in Tata on 7 January.

He underlined that four vehicles left from Tata on Wednesday: two Leopard A4 battle tanks to Miskolc and two Wisent cargo trucks to Veszprém.
From Kaposvár, two-two BTR-80 APCs were regrouped to Pécs and Medina, he added.

The minister also told us that at the barracks in Tata, the personnel on duty are being prepared for driving and towing in winter conditions, so that they are ready immediately if needed.
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky also highlighted that the commands and units of the Hungarian Defence Forces have been instructed to help if they find vehicles or people in need, while doing their duty.

The minister added that as a member of the Operative Staff, the Hungarian Defence Forces – in close cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the National Directorate General for Disaster Management – constantly monitor the exceptional snow situation and contribute to carrying out the tasks if needed.
