The declared aims of the meeting were to introduce the military aspect of the current Spanish EU presidency, to provide information about the ongoing special tasks and to harmonize the priorities of the three countries.
The close cooperation among the top military leaders has outstanding significance for the Military Committee, since the rotating presidency of the European Union will be held by Belgium as of 1 January 2024 and by Hungary as of 1 July 2024.
The representatives of Spain – which holds the current presidency – pointed out the importance and effectiveness of the LIVEX and the relocated meeting at Chiefs of Defence level in October. During its term of presidency, Hungary will also consider the organization of similar events a priority.
Speaking about the important tasks of the Hungarian presidency, General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF General Staff mentioned the development of the military capabilities of the European Union, the preservation of the stability of the Western Balkans, as well as Hungary’s complex and active (educational, health care, agricultural and military) engagement in Chad in the interest of reducing the migration potential.
