Visit to US defense innovation organizations
Text: Ministry of Defence | 12:33 March 30, 2023In the company of Barbara McQuiston, Chair of the NATO DIANA (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic) Board of Directors, Brigadier General Dr. Imre Porkoláb recently paid a visit to organizations in the USA that play an outstanding role in defense innovation.
Approved by NATO’s June 2021 Brussels Summit, DIANA harnesses its Accelerator Program and its network of Test Centers to connect start-ups, small enterprises and academia with end-users, subject matter experts and system integrators so that they can further the development of deep technology through dual-use solutions of the Alliance.
The discussions held with the president of the Naval Postgraduate School, the founders of the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation at Stanford University, the representatives of the US Joint Staff J7 Directorate for Joint Force Development, the director of Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the leaders of the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN) of the DoD Defense Innovation Unit were very useful from the viewpoint of supporting DIANA and the domestic defence innovation developments. The visited organizations show openness to the idea of introducing defence innovation training and the “design thinking” method into NATO, including Hungary.
