On Tuesday, 28 March, Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces welcomed the leaders of the SHAPE International School in Hotel Hadik, Budapest, where, among others, he spoke about the details of the HDF Cadet Program as well.

The leaders of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) International School visit every NATO member state in order to get acquainted with the national systems of education. During their stay in Hungary, they are going to visit the Than Károly Eco-School and Technical School of the Budapest Center of Technical Vocational Training, as well as a dual-language high school and another church-run secondary school.

“I believe in the power of education. Four years ago, no more than 400 cadets and one school belonged to the Hungarian Defence Forces, and today we have more than 7000 cadets, thanks to our having reshaped the program. I believe that the equality among the government, the society and the armed forces is a precondition for the smooth functioning of the specific fields. For this reason, we are now working to rebuild the relationship between society and the Hungarian Defence Forces”, said the Chief of the HDF General Staff at the event.

Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD said that in order to improve the relationship between society and the military, they offer job opportunities to the adults, while young people aged between 14–18 years can pursue their studies in the HDF Cadet Program – the latter not only brings cadets closer to the armed forces, but through them, this program also makes it possible for their parents and grandparents to learn about the soldiers’ everyday life.
