The three-day conference “Challenges and Trends in Shaping Future (Military) Language Education” puts the future of professional language training and the challenges of military interoperability at the centre. The conference was opened at the Ludovika University of Public Service on 17 November. The event has been organised by the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign Language and Terminology Centre of the Faculty of Military Sciences and Officer Training and is being attended by professionals from half a dozen countries.

“Our presidential events provided great opportunities for introducing our major results in the fields of the HDF’s modernisation, the revival of the Hungarian defence industry and the defence innovation, as well as our plans for the future”, evaluated Dr. Zsolt Kutnyánszky the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2024. The MoD State Secretary for Force Development and Defence Policy handed over certificates of recognition from the prime minister to those participating in the preparation for and execution of the successful Hungarian presidency.

Soaring Cooperation

The partnership between Hungary and Saab AG dates back to 2001. This was the year when Hungary ordered the first batch of Gripen fighter aircraft. On 18 February 2025, the defence equipment and aircraft manufacturing company opened a new office in Budapest. In the future, the Hungarian Defence Forces, the Swedish company and the players of Hungarian defence industry will pay special attention to the development of avionics. To this end, they will establish a joint Air Capability Development Center as well.

Military Attachés at the University of Public Service

The representatives of the Budapest Military Attaché Corps (BMAC) visited the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training at the University of Public Service and the HDF Ludovika Battalion on 24 April. The delegation listened to several lectures about the courses and the training, visited the campus, saw the state-of-the-art equipment of the university and met officer cadets.

Defence innovation helps security

Brigadier General Dr. Imre Porkoláb hopes that more and better-capitalized Hungarian companies will apply for this year’s grants of the European Defence Fund (EDF) than before. Speaking at a professional workshop organized for the representatives of large enterprises in Budapest, the MoD ministerial commissioner for defence innovation said that he hoped that Hungarian companies would undertake to become lead members of applicant consortia.

Turkish Chief of Defence Visits Hungary

General Musa Avsever, Acting Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces is staying in Hungary on a three-day official visit. As part of his program, he laid a wreath in Heroes’ Square, Budapest, and then conducted closed-door talks in the Ministry of Defence on Monday, 12 June.
