Major General Dr. István Kun-Szabó, Director of the Defence Directorate of the Office of the President of the Republic of Hungary, recently visited the Hungarian Defence Forces Baltic Air Policing Quick Reaction Alert (BAP QRA) Detachment stationed in Lithuania. He was accompanied by János Béres, Hungary’s ambassador accredited to Lithuania, and Colonel Kálmán Hüse, defence, military and air attaché.

The city of Siauliai commemorated the Day of the Lithuanian Armed Forces within the framework of a military ceremony held on 23 November. The day is one of the most important national military events in the Baltic country, and its historic significance goes back to 23 November 1918, when the newly independent Lithuania established its own armed forces. Since then, this day has been a symbol of the respect for Lithuanian statehood, freedom and the military vocation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Deputy Defence Minister Tamás Vargha recently paid a visit to Hungarian servicemembers serving in the Baltics. During their visit to the Hungarian Defence Forces Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) Detachment of the Baltic Air Policing (BAP) Mission, the minister acknowledged with satisfaction that the Hungarian airmen have demonstrated their ability, professional preparedness and dedication already on the fourth occasion, which earns good reputation for Hungary and the Hungarian Defence Forces within NATO.

Survival at the Baltic Sea

An international sea survival exercise codenamed Baltic Bikini 2025 was recently held in the Baltics, Klaipėda Region, Lithuania. The exercise aimed at improving pilots’ and aircrew members’ survival skills in an aquatic environment. This year’s exercise was special because, besides Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian participants, two Hungarian Gripen pilots also participated.

On Friday, 12 September, in Poland and Lithuania, MoD Parliamentary State Secretary and Deputy Defence Minister Tamás Vargha and General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff discussed regional security challenges, the strengthening of cooperation among NATO allies and the possibilities for developing collective defence capabilities.

First Live Deployment in the Baltic Region
