Commander of Hungarian Defence Forces receives United Kingdom’s ambassador accredited to Hungary
Text: Hungarian Defence Forces Command | Photo: WO Lajos Szabó |  16:29 October 22, 2021On Friday, 22 October Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces received in his office Paul Fox, Ambassador of the United Kingdom accredited to Hungary.
The United Kingdom has an important role in safeguarding the security of the continent, and the results achieved so far between the two countries serve as an excellent basis for cooperation.
At the meeting, Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD pointed out that he considers it important to further strengthen the cooperation between the United Kingdom and Hungary. The excellent relationship of the two countries is evidenced by a bilateral letter of intention signed in 2019, which formulates goals in various fields of defence cooperation.
Among the topics high on the agenda of the small-scale discussion was cyber security and cooperation on various education platforms. The two sides agreed that the possible forms of cooperation regarding training programs and sharing experiences need to be further developed on the basis of ongoing processes.
The participants also discussed lessons learned in connection with reserve personnel, Hungary’s defence policy directions, the security situation of the Western Balkans and the latest results of the National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program.
Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD emphasized that the Hungarian Defence Forces are open to further cooperation with the United Kingdom in the field of trade training and courses.
During an overview of general issues in international relations, the two sides discussed the close cooperation between the medical services, cooperation between the air forces, and co-deployment in international operations.
At the meeting, the commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces and the ambassador agreed that the further strengthening of cooperation and broadening of existing relations are in the common interest of the two countries.
