In his opening speech, Zsolt Barthel-Rúzsa, MoD State Secretary for the Control of Military National Security emphasized that in recent years, the geopolitical changes and technological achievements have fundamentally reshaped defence policy.

“Cyber security is of strategic importance, not only for Hungary but also for the European Union as a whole. In a period of wars and conflicts afflicting the world, it is fundamentally important to realize that the challenges of the modern age can only be met with modern equipment and mindset” – pointed out the state secretary. In his speech, he highlighted that although cyber threats have a global character, so that no country can defend itself against them alone, yet it is very important for the EU member states to become as resilient as possible in the field of cyber security as well. He added that civil-military cooperation is becoming increasingly important in this field, because the most effective protection against the challenges of the modern age can be achieved by amalgamating the technological innovations of the private sector with the wide-ranging lessons learned of the military sector.

The main issues on the agenda included general information security, the possibilities of civil-military cooperation as well as the safety of supply chains. “In this professional field, everything is changing very fast, which requires a special approach and thinking. We have to work with extremely short response times, and there is a need for well-drilled procedures. I think that the Hungarian Defence Forces belong to the leading edge in this field, as we have several developments in the fields of national defence and cooperation” – said Colonel Gábor Pozderka, Commander, HDF Cyber Operations Command.

The event was also attended by Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of General Staff.
