MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy László Hajnik recently visited Canada to hold discussions, among others, with his counterpart, Peter Hammerschmidt, Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy) of the Department of National Defence of Canada.

At the meeting, the two delegations discussed the ways for expanding the areas of cooperation in bilateral relations, the importance of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and the war in Ukraine. The Canadian side praised Hungary’s troop contribution to KFOR, the Hungarian soldiers’ holding their ground in the Kosovo riots, as well as the job done by Hungarian Major General Ferenc Kajári as COMKFOR.

During his visit, Deputy State Secretary László Hajnik held discussions with liberal Member of Parliament in the House of Commons John McKay, Chair of Standing Committee on National Defence; with Christine Kennedy, Lead – Privy Council Office (PCO) Task Force/Coordination Cell, Foreign and Defence Policy Secretariat; and with Conservative Member of Parliament in the House of Commons James Bezan. At the CANSEC 2023 global defence and security trade show, on a courtesy call, he consulted with the leaders of Rheinmetall Canada, CAE and the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC).
