On 26 September, a planned training flight turned into an alpha scramble, when an aircraft left the Russian airspace via the Kaliningrad area without filing a flight plan, using its transponder or maintaining contact with the air traffic control tower.
The pair of Hungarian quick reaction alert (QRA) Gripens identified the Russian Su-35S (Flanker M) aircraft in international airspace, southeast of the island of Gotland.
Following the identification, the pair of Swedish standby aircraft took over the tasks of surveillance and escort, while the Hungarian fighter aircraft returned to the Šiauliai Air Base in Lithuania.
