At the meeting, the defence policy directors discussed the current security policy challenges, with special attention to the issues concerning the Western Balkans. Montenegro’s most important foreign policy goal is to join the European Union. During its presidency in 2024, Hungary paid special attention to this process, and continues to support Montenegro’s efforts.

During the discussions, the parties assessed the decisions made at the NATO Summit in the Hague and reviewed the situation of the bilateral and multilateral military cooperation, as well as the possibilities for development. The Montenegrin party gave thanks to Hungary for the support in wildfire control. On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, László Hajnik expressed his condolences to the Montenegrin delegation for the death of a young Montenegrin military officer who died during the firefighting operations.

At the meeting, the Montenegrin delegation was informed about the Hungarian armed forces development program, the recruitment campaigns and the establishment of the territorial defence reserve system.
