Military Engineers Return Home from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Hungary – besides other offers – provided military engineering support to Bosnia and Herzegovina via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
The seven soldiers belonging to the HDF 14th Engineer Regiment of Szentes participated in the restoration work following the largest disaster in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the past few years between 17 and 31 October.
The team carried out remediation of family houses, road maintenance and clean-up work, built dirt roads and did material transportation and disposal work, moving thousands of cubic metres of material during the two weeks, with two CASE 695 SV backhoe loaders and two Renault HD 007 tip trucks in and around Buturović Polje, Kostajnica, Parsovići, Seonica, Trusina and Donja Jablanica.
Soldiers deployed from Szentes were supported by the peacekeeping mission of the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EUFOR Liaison Observation Team (LOT) competent in the territory, the National Support Element of the Hungarian contingent and the local authorities.
Residents of the disaster-stricken territories were grateful and appreciated the service of the Hungarian soldiers. During her tour of the Balkans, in Donja Jablanica, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission also gave thanks to the Hungarian soldiers for their professional performance and commitment. At the end of their tour of duty, EUFOR Commander Major General Dr. László Sticz presented the members of the engineer team with certificates of appreciation.
