Transport on the battlefield
Text: Levente Petróczy | Photo: Ákos Pintér |  12:57 October 14, 2025On the Distinguished Visitors’ (DV) Day of Exercise Safety Transport 2025, a company consisting of German, Czech and Hungarian platoons was operating in the framework of a complex logistic transport mission to demonstrate its capability of executing loading and transportation tasks on the battlefield. On 13 October, representatives of the three nations observed a display of the military logistic exercise on the Tatárszentgyörgy shooting range and training area of the Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Forces Training Centre.

Under the scenario, the first convoy was responsible for securing the transfer point, while the second convoy occupied its sector of perimeter security. While transferring the containers, the convoys came under a minor attack from two directions which they repulsed, but the company was starting to run out of ammunition. A H225M helicopter provided the replenishment, while an injured German soldier was MEDEVACed from the zone of danger to a safe place where he received professional medical treatment.
Speaking about the Hungary-sponsored exercise, Major Gábor Mestyán, Chief of Operations and Training Department, HDF 2nd Sustainment Regiment told us that the Hungarian and German logisticians have been holding joint training events for close to ten years now, but this year sees the Czech platoon participating in the exercise for the first time.
“First, we familiarized ourselves with the Czech personnel’s procedures and integrated them into the company. It proved to be a big challenge, because so far the exercise has been running with two nations, but we saw all the Czech logisticians smoothly executing their tasks, so Safety Transport 2025 deserves to be called a success” – said the major.

The exercise does not end with the display, as the lessons learned during the training events and task executions will be analyzed and the video footages of them will be built into the program of the training sessions. Multinational exercises always provide the personnel of the Hungarian Defence Forces with good opportunities to learn from foreign troops.
Of course, apart from the Hungarian soldiers, learning from each other also goes for the Germans and the Czech. Corporal Tamás Csörsz is being deployed on the exercise in guard commander position, as a member of the German platoon. In answering our question, he told us that he had been participating in Exercise Safety Transport for the third time, but this was the first occasion when he had a chance to use a drone.
“Working with the drone was quite interesting to me. Although I did not fly it myself, thanks to the videos, we are able to comb a given area much more quickly. I think I’ll be able to utilize the new skills I have acquired on this exercise in Germany, too” – said Corporal Csörsz in summing up his experiences.
Following the display, the invited superiors presented recognitions to the soldiers and the trainers.
