Champions of the Air on the Podium

“During the past few days, we witnessed a competition where the most excellent paratroopers of the world were competing to test their preparedness and technical skills, and they have brought us the excitement and beauty of this special sport.” – this was how Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief, HDF General Staff said farewell to the participants of the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship at the RepTár in Szolnok on 12 July. The national sports teams of more than 30 countries whose members performed best in the overall results lined up to stand on the podium and worthily say goodbye to the ten days they had spent in Hungary, rich in experiences and successes.

The national parachute team of the Hungarian Defence Forces is training in full swing for the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship. Organized with the participation of national teams from 33 countries, the prestigious sporting competition will take place in Szolnok, Hungary between 3 and 12 July.

Expanding airlift capacity in Pápa

Stationed at the Hungarian Defence Forces 47th Air Base, the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) reached another significant milestone with the opening of the 3,200 square-meter Combined Aerial Port Facility (CAPF) in Pápa on 19 June. As a result of two years of construction works, the HAW’s airlift capability has been expanded with an increased warehouse capacity, new offices and a parachute drying tower.

In this spirit, among others, a Slovenian-Hungarian border meeting of chiefs of defence was held at the Rheinmetall factory in Zalaegerszeg on 23 May.

On the fourth day of the multinational Exercise Brave Warrior 2024, an Italian rifle company of the NATO Forward Land Forces Battle Group (NATO FLF BG) carried out a live fire exercise (LFX) with armored Centauro Reconnaissance Anti-Tank Vehicles, towed 155mm FH-70 field howitzers, 120mm heavy mortars and Iveco LMV Light Multirole Vehicles as infantry fighting vehicles. In the afternoon, the main role in the Bakony Hills was being played by the Hungarian soldiers and their anti-armor Carl Gustaf M4 recoilless rifles, as the personnel declared to the FLF rifle company are continuously training for the Combat Readiness Evaluation of Land Headquarters and Units (CREVAL) validation exercise.

Multinational Life-Saving

The Romanian MEDEVAC helicopter is taking off to transport simulated, moulaged German casualties. There is a presumption of infection, so the converted Black Hawk is yet to land, when the workstation of the British Casualty Decontamination Area (CDA) is already established – working intensely, its personnel have set up their tents in approximately ten minutes. After the screening, the casualties are transported in a Belgian ambulance to the tent of the US Role-2-Enhanced (R2E) medical treatment facility (MTF). This is Vigorous Warrior 2024, NATO’s only military medical exercise.

Continuing development of the armed forces

“Since 2016, we have taken a huge step forward on the path of armed forces development, but this is not enough. The biggest challenge for us still consists in changing our way of thinking. Today, we spend more than 2% of our GDP on defence, therefore we have the political will and the financial resources available for transforming our armed forces”, said General Gábor Böröndi PhD, Chief of HDF General Staff at the forum of the April 26 conference.
