New commander, unchanged objectives

Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C) has a new commander in the person of Brigadier General Tibor Králik. On Monday, 31 July Croatian Major General Denis Tretinjak passed the command to the Slovakian general in Alba Regia barracks, Székesfehérvár.

Military medical team leaves for Kosovo

In the evening of 29 May, an Airbus A319 aircraft of the Hungarian Defence Forces specifically converted for air ambulance operations took off from Kecskemét air base to provide medical care for the Hungarian soldiers who had been injured in the crowd riot control task ordered at Zvecan, Kosovo, and to return them home if necessary. Major General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief, HDF General Staff also accompanies the military doctors on board.

On Wednesday, 17 May, according to a yearslong tradition, this year’s handover-takeover of the chief of staff positions of EUFOR Operation ALTHEA and NATO Headquarters Sarajevo (NHQ Sa) took place at a joint ceremony held in the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Lieutenant General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of General Staff, Hungarian Defence Forces was also present at the event organized in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo.

On Friday, 21 April, France’s ambassador to Hungary Claire Legras visited the HDF Cyber and Information Operations Centre (HDF CIOC). On 31 March, the attainment of Initial Operational Capability (IOC) of the Hungary-based Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C) was declared in the framework of a solemn ceremony held in Székesfehérvár, where – besides several Hungarian and international invitees – also in attendance were Defence Minister of Hungary Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

Hungarian soldiers played the main role at two transfer of authority ceremonies in Bosnia-Herzegovina on the same day. On 11 May in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo, two Hungarians, a brigadier general and a colonel relinquished the chief of staff positions of both EUFOR and the local NATO Headquarters to another Hungarian brigadier general and colonel respectively. Also in attendance at the ceremonies were Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces and Dr. Gáspár Maróth, National Armament Director.
