All Hungarian soldiers are important

Hungarian soldiers played the main role at two transfer of authority ceremonies in Bosnia-Herzegovina on the same day. On 11 May in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo, two Hungarians, a brigadier general and a colonel relinquished the chief of staff positions of both EUFOR and the local NATO Headquarters to another Hungarian brigadier general and colonel respectively. Also in attendance at the ceremonies were Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces and Dr. Gáspár Maróth, National Armament Director.

We must preserve and cherish their memory

“The Hungarian people will preserve and cherish the soldiers’ memory forever”, said Defence Minister Tibor Benkő in Hejce on 19 January. Speaking at a military honors ceremony, the minister of defence of Hungary underlined that soldiers offer the noblest thing, their own lives for their nation, which is why we must think of them with pride.

On Tuesday, 14 December President of Hungary János Áder paid a visit to the Force Headquarters of EUFOR Operation Althea in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The head of state’s entourage included Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő and Lieutenant General Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces, who also visited the Hungarian soldiers serving in a foreign mission during the holiday season.

Dead Soldiers are no longer enemies

On Friday, 10 September the mortal remains of 22 Soviet soldiers fallen in Hungary were laid to eternal rest in the Fiumei Road Cemetery, Budapest. Speaking at the ceremony organized by the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Colonel Dr. József András Balogh, Cabinet Chief of the Ministry of Defence called attention to the importance of the war grave care work being done by the two countries.

Strengthened support for UNFICYP
