Defence Ministers agree on strengthening V4 military cooperation

The member states of the Visegrád Group (V4) – the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia – consider it necessary to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of military logistics and defence industry – this was announced at a press conference following the meeting of V4 defence ministers in Budapest on June 25.

On June 23, traffic was busy at the HDF 101st Aviation Wing. Two new JAS 39 Gripens arrived to their permanent home base, and besides, some special “dinner guests” came along to visit the airbase. A Northrop F-5A fighter aircraft and an Airbus A400M Atlas giant airlifter of The Turkish Stars – the aerobatic demonstration team of the Turkish Air Force – landed on the runway for refueling. En route to their destinations in Germany and Belgium, the members of the world’s largest aerobatic team equipped with supersonic fighters thanked their hosts in Kecskemét for their hospitality by performing a short demo flight.

The Fleet is Complete

With the completion of the Hungarian Defence Forces fighter aircraft fleet, already 18 armed JAS 39 Gripens safeguard Hungary’s and NATO’s airspace. “Our Gripens protect not only the Hungarian sky” – said MoD Parliamentary State Secretary László Kürtös at the reception ceremony of the last two assets of the fleet on June 23.

The Hungarian national team finished at the top of the medal table at the ECA Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships, which concluded on Sunday in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. The athletes, who are members of the HDF Sports Company, delivered outstanding performances at the continental competition: military athletes won three of the five gold medals, three of the six silver medals, and four out of the six bronze medals.

Cutting-edge technology in the air

“It can be armed, used for the tasks of special operations, in support the land forces, for air assault and close air support, and for the execution of any logistic transport task” – this was how Colonel Krisztián Kovács, Commander, HDF 86th Helicopter Wing praised the versatility of the H225M helicopters at the 5th conference of the H225M User Group on June 2.

Strong Lineage 2026: precise, synchronized, international

Besides the Slovak training areas, Exercise Strong Lineage 2026 of the Slovakia-based NATO Multinational Brigade Task Force was conducted in the Bakony Hills, Hungary. The Spanish subunit (Task Force Bravo) of the brigade conducted live-fire training on the “Zero point” shooting range and training area, where its soldiers maneuvered, synchronized fires and took aim precisely on platoon level with their Uro Vamtac combat vehicles.

Hungarian poet Endre Ady summarized the feelings he had experienced along the River Tisza and on the infinite grassland in beautiful poetic tropes of his poem entitled “The poet of Hortobágy”. The soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces 2nd Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Regiment gained similarly moving experiences during their training jumps performed above the airport of Hajdúszoboszló.

The international NATO Instructor Course opened its gates on Whit Monday, 25 May in Szentendre, Hungary. The event was attended by Chief Warrant Officer Tamás Zsiros, Command Sergeant Major of the Hungarian Defence Forces and Colonel Imre Frankó, the commandant of the HDF NCO Academy.

Figuratively speaking, the ferries and combat vehicles of the Hungarian Defence Forces occupied River Danube on 11 May. They crossed Hungary’s largest river first at Meszes-Gerjen, and then at Fajsz, under cover of night. The wet gap crossing operation of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicles of the HDF 30th Mechanized Infantry Brigade was assisted by soldiers of the HDF 14th Engineer Regiment and the Ohio National Guard.

Multinational Crossing

Soldiers and combat vehicles of the Hungarian-led multinational NATO Forward Land Forces Battlegroup (FLF BG) crossed the Danube by ferry at the Meszes–Gerjen ferry site near Kalocsa. Personnel of the HDF 14th Engineer Regiment and the Ohio National Guard, taking part in Exercise Szentes Castle, helped the multinational battlegroup in carrying out the task requiring coordinated teamwork on 11 May.
