Thanks from North Macedonia for the Help of Hungarian Service Members
Text: honvedelem.hu | Photo: archives |  10:40 April 16, 2025Major General Sashko Lafchiski, Chief of General Staff of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia, expressed his gratitude to the Hungarian Defence Forces for helping contain the wildfire in his country last year, as well as for transporting and taking care of the injured victims of the nightclub fire in March.

The Balkan country’s Chief of Staff wrote to General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff, that on behalf of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia and himself, he would like to extend his heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation for the unwavering support and solidarity demonstrated by Hungary and the Hungarian Defence Forces following the devastating fire disaster that affected their country.
“In times of crisis, it is the compassion and kindness of the international community that helps heal the wounds of tragedy”, underlined Major General Sashko Lafchiski. He added that the swift response, generous aid and tireless efforts of Hungary made a significant impact on North Macedonia’s recovery and rebuilding process.
He recalled that the Hungarian Defence Forces also assisted North Macedonia with logistical support, humanitarian aid and technical expertise. According to Major General Lafchiski, the Hungarians’ dedicated support showed that in times of hardship, his country can rely on foreign support.

In North Macedonia, a territory of more than 95 thousand hectares was destroyed by fire last year. Also, out of the injured casualties of the nightclub fire claiming the lives of 61 that happened only a few weeks ago in Kocani, North Macedonia, several were transported for treatment to the Central Hospital of Northern Pest – Military Hospital, Hungary.
