On 21 November, in the organization of the HDF General Staff, the deputy military representatives of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) visited the Tata-based HDF 1st Armored Brigade within the framework of the program of the Hungarian EU presidency. The experts learned about the functioning of the unit and saw the Cupola, the simulation center of the Brigade, as well as the armored military equipment.

The group visiting Tata was received by Major General Gábor Horváth, Deputy Head and Chief of Staff of the European Union Military Staff. “The experts visiting us represent the military interests of their own member states and are continuously working to reach compromises and unified military positions in the EUMC concerning the issues under discussion. The EUMC’s position is of fundamental importance in political decisions affecting the conduct of common operations and missions. Moreover, its role also covers the development of military capabilities, as well as the cooperation between NATO and the EU” – said Major General Horváth.

At these informal meetings, the member states get well acquainted with each other’s interests and policies. Such meetings are important for strengthening mutual trust. “Transparency promotes cooperation in the changed security policy situation. The main principle is interoperability, as the rapid response of the EU forces on standby is unimaginable without a detailed knowledge of each other.”

The guests were shown around the simulator center of the Panzerhaubitze 2000HU self-propelled howitzers and the Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks, where the skills of artillerymen and tank drivers are being developed.

While in the training rooms, they could see artillery reconnaissance and gun simulators, a digital fire control system and a simulator serving the training of tank drivers. During a static display, they had opportunity to take a closer look at the Panzerhaubitze 2000HU self-propelled howitzers, the Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks and different variants of the Gidrán armored tactical combat vehicle.
