Hungarian KFOR Contingent closes its mission with sports

The 33rd rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces KFOR Contingent has been serving in Kosovo since 1 September 2025. The last six months were not only about disciplined and professional task execution, but also about steadfastness, cohesion and the continuous demonstration of physical and mental preparedness. The sports and professional competitions served as one venue among the various trials of strength.

Minister of defence runs together with soldiers for peace

Besides strengthening camaraderie, the main and topical message of a memorial run organized on the anniversary of the foundation of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) is peace, because “the wind of war is blowing over Europe again” – stated Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the military sporting event in Budapest on 18 February.

Hungarian Success at the CISM World Military Parachuting Championships

At the 47th CISM World Military Parachuting Championships (WMPC), held in Doha between 13 and 23 November, 180 competitors from 28 countries compared their skills in accuracy landing, style and formation skydiving events. The Hungarian team represented our country in accuracy landing with six athletes from the HDF 86th Helicopter Wing personnel.

They Finished Second Place

The national parachute team of the Hungarian Defence Forces came in second at the 2025 Skydive World Cup Series in total. The sixth, and closing, competition was held in Locarno, Switzerland, with the participation of more than 200 parachutists from 22 countries.

Hungarian Hussars at the CISM 25th World Military Equestrian Championship

Four soldiers of the Count Ferenc Nádasdy Hussar Division, HDF “vitéz Szurmay Sándor Budapest” Garrison Brigade, also participated in the CISM 25th World Military Equestrian Championship in Cairo. In the high-ranking event, 60 competitors from 20 countries matched their skills.

Basic sport instructor training in Germany

The CISM International Basic Sport Instructor Training Course was held with the participation of eight member countries within the program of the International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire, CISM) in Warendorf, Germany between 30 March and 17 April. Besides Warrant Officer András Furman, assigned warrant officer of the HDF 2nd Sustainment Regiment, the other Hungarian participant of the 24th edition of the vocational further training sports course was Lieutenant Lili Mag, an officer of the HDF 3rd Territorial Defence Regiment.

Run for Peace

Today, there was a run not only in every HDF garrison town but also in each member state of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), said Colonel Dr. Zoltán Eleki, Deputy Head of the Defence Staff Training Directorate, on 18 February at the run held on the occasion of the CISM International Day of Military Sports on the athletics field of the Budapest Honvéd Sports Association.

Our Military Athletes Won a Gold and a Bronze Medal

The 42nd World Military Judo Championship was hosted by Tashkent this year. In the capital city of Uzbekistan, 213 military athletes from 29 nations stood up on the tatami. From the four-member Hungarian delegation, Lance Corporal Roland Gőz won a gold medal in the 90kg category, while Corporal Brigitta Vargha won a bronze medal in the 63kg category.

Lords of the Sky

Seven days of intense competition, outstanding sports results, changing wind, old and new friendships – the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship in Szolnok has ended. The Hungarian national team has achieved a really nice result as it won the bronze medal in the team accuracy landing category, while Warrant Officer Tamás Varga from the HDF 86th Helicopter Wing Special Parachuting Training Centre came in second in individual accuracy landing.
