Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of HDF Defence Staff paid an official visit to Kosovo on 5 August 2025. Within the framework of the program, he held discussions with Commander of KFOR Major General Enrico Barduani, and personally met the Hungarian troops serving in the region.

Hungarian general again in “the NATO capital of Poland”

Already for the third time, a Hungarian general has been appointed deputy commander and chief of staff of the NATO Joint Force Training Centre in Bydgoszcz for three years again, starting from July 2025. Brigadier General Zoltán Bárány has taken over the command position – which is filled by Czechia and Hungary in three-year turns – from his Czech colleague, Brigadier General Petr Svoboda.

Successful firefighting operation in Albania

After completing four days of firefighting and more than 53 flight hours, the two H225M helicopters of the Hungarian Defence Forces returned from Albania to Szolnok airbase, Hungary on Sunday. The Hungarian airmen and the two rotorcraft had been providing assistance with containing the wildfires raging for weeks.

“It is Hungary’s prominent national interest to preserve peace in the Western Balkans and to promote its security and stability, so the Hungarian Defence Forces continue to committedly support the international forces serving in Bosnia and Herzegovina” – emphasized General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff in Camp Butmir, where he had discussions with the leaders of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo (NHQSa) and EUFOR Operation Althea, and held a staff meeting for the Hungarian troops serving in the region.

New Commander Takes over at NATO SHAPE

A new commander recently took over the command of NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). The handover-takeover ceremony took place in Mons, Belgium, with the participation of, among others, General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff. During the ceremony, General Christopher G. Cavoli, who had assumed command of SHAPE in July 2022, handed over the flag of the organization and the second highest military position within NATO to General Alexus G. Grynkewich.

Special Operations, Joint Training

Hungary and North Macedonia are open to further deepening military-to-military relations and strengthening cooperation between their armed forces, which contributes to the security and stability of the region. Keeping NATO interoperability in mind, they mutually support and help each other and open up the possibilities of joint training, declared the Chief of HDF Defence Staff following the discussions with his North Macedonian counterpart in Ohrid. General Dr. Gábor Böröndi made a two-day official visit to North Macedonia at the invitation of Major General Sashko Lafchiski.

NATO Defense College Visits Budapest

Headed by NDC Commandant Lieutenant General Max A.L.T. Nielsen, the Senior Course of the primary strategic-level educational facility of the NATO Defense College (NDC) visited Budapest to learn about Hungary’s foreign, security and defence policy priorities, as well as the directions of armed forces development. The delegation was received by Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of HDF Defence Staff.
