That is why connecting the fields of defence and education is indispensable, also for the sake of Europe’s future, he said in his welcoming speech, which also covered the success of Hungarian military education.

The “I love it, I defend it!” campaign is a success. Many thousands of people have shown interest so far, thousands have applied, and from among them, 1,000 determined Hungarians committed to their homeland have already signed on in the Hungarian Defence Forces to strengthen Hungary’s defence as territorial defence reservists – this was announced by Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky. As recruits, several Olympians, national champion athletes, ex-footballer Péter Rajczi and Norbert Schobert Jr. have also joined the reserve force due to the campaign.

Moonstar 2024

The Hungarian Defence Forces are conducting a multinational tactical exercise codenamed Moonstar 2024 on the Central Training Area and Range in the first half of September. The primary objectives of the exercise involving Hungarian, Polish and Slovak territorial defence reserve forces are to build subunit cohesion in the field, certify the reservists’ readiness and assess the skills they have acquired so far.

Central celebrations were recently held in Besztercebánya (Banska Bystrica) to mark the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising. Chief of Defence General Dr. Gábor Böröndi also participated in the celebrations. Hungary was represented by a parade platoon of the HDF “vitéz Szurmay Sándor” Budapest Garrison Brigade’s 32nd Life Guard Regiment at the military parade held as a part of the program, and a Gripen of the HDF 101st Aviation Wing made the event more colourful with a flypast.

The Hungarian national armwrestling team gave its best performance at the world armwrestling championship held in Chisinau, by winning 19 medals altogether, including 9 gold medals. Staff Sergeant Brigitta Kőváriné Ivánfi, a soldier of the HDF Military Training Centre, returned home from the championship with two gold and two bronze medals.

EUFOR Reserve Company Activated

On 24 August, a company of Hungarian troops, an Over-the-Horizon Reserve Force of EUFOR arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to join Exercise Quick Response 2024, the largest-scale training event of the European Union Force (EUFOR) Operation Althea. Force Commander (COMEUFOR) Major General László Sticz PhD received the company led by First Lieutenant Zoltán Ocsák at the Croatia–BiH border.
