On behalf of the government, Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky has tabled his proposed amendment on Hungary’s military role in Iraq. Based on the draft resolution tabled by him, at most 20 troops – or 40 in rotational periods – would serve in the international military operations conducted against the Islamic State. Their mandate will run until 31 December 2025.

“We live in the age of threats, so we must do all we can in the interest of preparing for the defence of the homeland. The objective of this exercise is to test the readiness of the armed forces in a fictitious situation when Hungary’s security is at stake” – emphasized Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the press conference of the countrywide multinational Exercise Adaptive Hussars 2023, on the Hajdúhadház shooting range on 13 November.

This year, Hungary filled the chairmanship of the Management Group of the NATO Air Battle Decisive Munitions (ABDM) initiative. Besides Hungary, representatives from 15 NATO member countries attended the large-scale autumn session of the organization in Budapest between 23–27 October.
