Minister of Defence Lays Wreath in Brussels

On 22nd October, Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of Hungary in NATO Zoltán Nagy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Belgium and Luxembourg Iván Tamás Kovács, and Lieutenant General Gábor Böröndi, Head of the Military Representative Office laid a wreath in the presence of Piarist Priest István Havas and members of the Hungarian 1956 Diaspora.

Minister of Defence receives US–Hungary Business Council delegation

The top leaders of leading American companies recently visited Budapest already for the sixth time, in the organization of the US–Hungary Business Council. On Thursday, 14 October, on behalf of the defence portfolio, Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő received 14 representatives of eight companies who arrived, among others, from the fields of defence industry, cyber defence, pharmaceutical industry, medical technology industry, oil and gas industry as well as tobacco industry.

DECI member countries’ Chiefs of Defence meet in Rome

The participants of a chiefs of staff level conference of the Defence Cooperation Initiative (DECI) have signed a document concerning the result of the Strategic Review in Rome. At the two-day discussion, Hungary was represented by Lieutenant General Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces. The chiefs of staff of member countries reaffirmed that this form of cooperation has the primary objective of enhancing regional stability and security in Central and South-Eastern Europe through the military cooperation of member states.

Hungarian and Swedish defence policy directors consult in Budapest

Dr. Gergely Németh, Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy of the Ministry of Defence received Swedish Defence Policy Director Johan Lagerlöf on a working visit. Their meeting took place in Budapest on 28 September, in the interest of discussing in detail the tasks identified during earlier Hungarian–Swedish bilateral consultations.

Hungarian-Serbian joint government meeting in Budapest

On 7 September Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić and her governmental delegation paying an official visit to Hungary in the framework of the sixth Hungarian–Serbian joint government session in Budapest. At the two-day government meeting, Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő held official bilateral discussions with his Serbian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Dr. Nebojša Stefanović, and also with Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Darija Kisić Tepavčević.

Hungarian V4 presidency starts with V4 defence policy directors’ meeting

Thanks to the improving epidemiological situation, the defence policy directors of V4 countries had an opportunity to meet in person in Budapest on 8–9 July. The Hungarian delegation was headed by Dr. Gergely Németh, Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy of the Ministry of Defence. The primary goal of the meeting was to discuss the defence policy and military-to-military cooperation program of the Hungarian V4 presidency which started on 1 July 2021, and to make preparations for the V4 defence ministers’ meeting to be held in the autumn of 2021.

Hungary takes over V4 presidency as of 1 July

The defence ministers’ meeting to close the one-year Polish presidency was held at Headquarters NATO Multinational Division North-East (HQ MND NE) on 21 June. The main topics on the agenda of the ministers’ discussion were the current EU and NATO issues, as well as the possibilities for further strengthening and developing the V4 defence cooperation.
